Why we should wait on God

Ever get tired of waiting for God? Maybe you’ve prayed so hard every day and all the answers you got was “Wait?”. It’s actually what I’ve been experiencing at the moment too for a couple of years and I’m not sure why I needed to wait. All I know is at the end, it’ll always be beautiful in His time, if we follow and rest in Him. Here is a really nice encouragement post that I got from a friend’s wall on Facebook. Not sure who the author is but do let me know if you’ve ever read this somewhere.

Desperately, helplessly, longingly, I cried,
Quietly, patiently, lovingly God replied.
I pled and I wept for a clue to my fate,
And the Master so gently said, “Child, you must wait.”

“Wait? You say, wait! ” my indignant reply.
“Lord, I need answers, I need to know why!
Is your hand shortened? Or have you not heard?
By Faith, I have asked, and am claiming your Word.

My future and all to which I can relate
Hangs in the balance, and YOU tell me to WAIT?
I’m needing a ‘yes’, a go-ahead sign,
Or even a ‘no’ to which I can resign.

And Lord, You promised that if we believe
We need but to ask, and we shall receive.
And Lord, I’ve been asking, and this is my cry:
I’m weary of asking! I need a reply!

Then quietly, softly, I learned of my fate
As my Master replied once again, “You must wait.”
So, I slumped in my chair, defeated and taut
And grumbled to God, “So, I’m waiting … for what?”

He seemed, then, to kneel, and His eyes wept with mine,
And he tenderly said, “I could give you a sign.
I could shake the heavens, and darken the sun.
I could raise the dead, and cause mountains to run.

All you seek, I could give, and pleased you would be.
You would have what you want – But, you wouldn’t know Me.
You’d not know the depth of My love for each saint;
You’d not know the power that I give to the faint.

You’d not learn to see through the clouds of despair;
You’d not learn to trust just by knowing I’m there;
You’d not know the joy of resting in Me
When darkness and silence were all you could see.

You’d never experience that fullness of love
As the peace of My Spirit descends like a dove;
You’d know that I give and I save… (for a start),
But you’d not know the depth of the beat of My heart.

The glow of My comfort late into the night,
The faith that I give when you walk without sight,
The depth that’s beyond getting just what you asked
Of an infinite God, who makes what you have LAST.

You’d never know, should your pain quickly flee,
What it means that “My grace is sufficient for Thee.”
Yes, your dreams for your loved one overnight would come true,
But, Oh, the Loss! If I lost what I’m doing in you!

So, be silent, My Child, and in time you will see
That the greatest of gifts is to get to know Me.
And though oft may My answers seem terribly late,
My most precious answer of all is still, “WAIT.”

    Hi Michael,

    So like you I’m still single and wondering why I have to wait when it seems so many are finding their spouses. I had a particularly low point today and after talking to my mom she just continued to encourage me to trust God despite not understanding. So tonight I decided to type into google “trusting god enough to wait for his best” not really expecting anything to pop up and your blog “Write For God” was one of the search results. The article “Trusting God’s Timing” popped up and I wanted to say thank you for the encouragement. Also, to my amazement today’s blog that you posted on March 25th called “Why we should wait on God” was just what I needed to hear. That poem was beautiful and definitely something God wanted to reiterate to me.

    I know I should know this by now, haha, but God knew I needed the encouragement and brought me directly to your blog. God is good! Praise the Lord for his encouragement. Thanks for being vulnerable enough with your readers to share your struggles as well. I know it’s tough to do but it’s nice to know that we aren’t alone in struggles such as these. I pray God blesses you with a spouse as well. And may you find strength in the waiting period too.

    God bless,
    Ashley

    • Thank you for your comment, Ashley. It certainly brings me an extra encouragement, knowing that people are blessed through this blog.

      I do pray that one day you will find the right one too and when that time comes, you’ll realize how you’d be more thankful to God more than ever :) Don’t give up and keep on serving Him while you wait!

    What happened to Ashley, happened to me too… I Googled, then I saw your blog… From frustration to tears of joy… I know God is also speaking to me through your blog. Thank you so much, brother in Christ! I ALMOST GAVE UP waiting before I read your blog, and now, I know I can wait. For God knows my heart’s desires. Surely, HE will give me my heart’s desire, the man of my heart’s desire, shall come to pass. For HE who did not spare HIS own SON, but delivered HIM up for us all, how shall HE not with HIM also FREEly give us ALL things?

    Romans 8:32
    Even my heart’s desires are form HIM, my DADDY GOD will keep HIS promises! Amen in Jesus name~!

    • That is sweet, glad to hear that Lee! It’s always a struggle when you are waiting on God, because we always want to be in control or at least want to know. When that tough times come again, make sure you re-read this article again (and of course your bible!). I’m sure one day we’ll look back and smile at these hard times
